Related: About this forumHey eastern Iowans, how are you all doing after the wild storms?
70 mph winds, trees down, power outages, and rain, rain, rain. Flash flooding and the Mighty Mississippi is rising steadily, as well as the smaller rivers in the area. Enough is enough!
on edit- Western Illinois is getting hammered as well.

(37,364 posts)Out here on the prairie, we had torrential rains. I have limbs down in my back yard and there is standing water over the entire yard. Not going out until there is absolutely no lightning. The wind was downright frightening. I kept waiting for our front yard tree to come down on the house. It was so dark too.
That was a monster.

(16,254 posts)We didn't get any rain or strong winds, although we did get a nice breeze.
I'm more concerned about my grandchildren and their families who live in Iowa City and Cedar Rapids. Others are in Chicago which is where it is headed.
I hope it peters out soon and we don't have serious tornadoes. We have had SO much rain we're beginning to look like Africa with all the lush foliage.

(37,364 posts)It has been a rough day in this area. It is storming again now and the rains are torrential. The evening news (before the satellite went off) was reporting that there is concern that the Coralville Reservoir will top the spillway again like it did in 1993. Depends on how much rain we receive during the night. The engineers are trying to keep the flow going at a rate to prevent this, however, it will cause flooding down stream for certain.
Storm warnings are in place until midnight tonight. My yard has standing water on it and we live two miles in from the nearest river.

(62,407 posts)we were relatively lucky this afternoon, but not sure if we can handle tonite's.
We were at an appointment when it started. I am 65 and have never ever seen it rain like that.
couldn't even see to pull off the road, but couldn't stop.
Our street is flooded so I had to park half a block away. We took our big tree down last year or I am sure we'd have branches all over.

(62,407 posts)a double rainbow and some beautiful colors in the sky with the lightning to the east.
My brother in IC said he had 6.5 inches before the second round of rain, which I have to figure was another 3 inches or so.
Never ever saw it rain like that.
ETA - my street which has never flooded before is up to my sidewalks - so about 2 feet deep.
Global warming is a hoax?!

(16,254 posts)Most of our storms in the last month or so have been 5" in a short time. I'm waiting for new carpet in one room due to a drain that got plugged up during the last one.
They just announced that more is coming up from Missouri.

(12,336 posts)When I say a tree, I mean one that's likely 100 years old or more. In other words, it blocked an entire street. Nope, no global climate change here. 70 plus mile an hour winds taking down a HUGE tree and around four inches of rain, not to mention the Mississippi River is doing some serious flooding. Again.

(18,470 posts)This was a corn field just north of Maquoketa that I saw coming home from work today;
Since I didn't have to work Monday I stayed up late enough Sunday night to be up when it was raining really hard.
I was at my dentist's place yesterday and it got really dark while I was there. She was putting some fillings in so I couldn't really see but she said the water was running through the back yards.
