Some interesting (& good) news for Christie Vilsack.

First Televised King/Vilsack Debate for Central Iowa

...

Pundits consider the race a toss up and report King with just a two percent advantage in the polls.

"Christie Vilsack is by all measures the strongest challenge that Rep. King has had since he won the seat," said Dianne Bystrom, director of the Catt Center for Women and Politics at Iowa State.

Bystrom says the Vilsack/King match-up is gaining national attention. Outsiders are watching partly because of King's prominence in the tea party and partly because Iowa remains one of four states that has never elected a woman to Congress.

"Women have a better time of being elected to Congress as a challenger after redistricting" said Bystrom.

The two already debated twice. Once at the Clay County Fair and on WHO Radio, but a TV debate will offer the most voters a chance to really learn about the candidates.

This is the first time I've heard about actual poll numbers for this race. Although, the story doesn't say where they get the 2% figure from, I'm cautiously optimistic.

Also, Nate is giving Obama a 73% chance to win Iowa. http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/ Hopefully Christie will get a little boost from him too.

... This is the first year that King will have to face an opponent after redustricting happened. His new district includes Ames, Iowa. He's never had to win over these people.

Ames is the home of Iowa State University and it is a very liberal town of about 60,000. That's a good chunk of change. The students there love Obama, as does an overwhelming majority of this college town.

I hope Iowa rejects Steve King and I also hope that Minnesota shakes off Michelle Bachman like an annoying flea.

We shall see, but King is looking vulnerable.

I recently drove through the heart of King's base. I saw one Vilsack sign, but dozens and dozens of King signs. Those crazies love him.

I'm no longer in that district. We are working on a Bozwell defeat of Latham down here. (fingers crossed).

(Transplant from central Illinois since last year). I have a nice Vilsack sticker on my bumper and I drive by a huge Vilsack sign in a lawn on my way to and from work everyday. I do see way too many King signs, though. I hope the Ames area pulls the district her way as well. I know she has my vote! I got to meet her last spring, too!
