"No one knows what things will be like at fair time, but we need to make decisions now based on what we know today, not how we hope things will be in August," Jerry Hammer, the fair's general manager, wrote in a letter to Minnesotans posted on the event's website. "And right now, all of the science says that if things go well, well still be walking very carefully in three months. Thats far from ready to run a mass gathering marathon like the State Fair."
So what does that mean for the Iowa State Fair?
The fair and its partners need 60-70 days to get the grounds and the event schedule prepared for a possible Aug. 13 opening, according to an update on the fair's website. Given that, Iowans can expect a final decision in early to mid-June on whether we will all be gathering for corn dogs, lemonade and mutton bustin' in the August heat.
County fairs start @ the middle of June. I personally think they should shut it down til next year, but Coronavirus Kim is in charge not me.

(30,655 posts)1. My county has cancelled its fair.
No decision has been made yet about our state fair. JB says it is "unlikely" to go on.

(62,342 posts)2. If fairs did go on I can't imagine there would be many exhibitors
or visitors or midway.
You couldn't possibly pay me enough to attend one this year.
