Sure, the price of a good pint is going up. Head to your local bar or packie and it seems like the cost of a good beer is getting pricier by the day. True story: I paid almost $18 for a four-pack the other day. And I wasn't even mad about it.

But when it comes to tax rates on beer, it turns out Massachusetts is among the cheapest in the country.

According to a new report from the Tax Foundation, we ranked 44th, at just 11 cents. Wyoming, by comparison, came in at No. 1 with a state beer excise tax of $1.29 per gallon.

Here's the excise tax, explained in further detail:

This rate can include fixed-rate per volume taxes; wholesale taxes that are usually a percentage of the value of the product; distributor taxes (usually structured as license fees but are usually a percentage of revenues); retail taxes, in which retailers owe an extra percentage of revenues; case or bottle fees (which can vary based on size of container); and additional sales taxes (note that this measure does not include general sales tax, only those in excess of the general rate).
