Sump pump is working constantly

has been since the end of April. Last weekend and today, between the pumping it sounds like a creek flowing down there.

We replaced all the appliances in this 30 year old house and I think that we should replace the pump before it dies. Yes, we do have a battery backup for power outage, but I am thinking of the simple mechanical work of the pump - how long can it last?

If there are any DUers from California reading this. My apologies. For several years I have been thinking that we should build an infrastructure of water pipes across the country, to take water from floods and send it to dry areas.

my neighbor has 3 pumps he complained about. Me one, but lots of water coming through my dry wells via my foundation drains. Turns out were used a pool clorine tester and there it was town water. The laterals mains were leaking in the street and hitting an underground spring...this went on for 5 yrs. I just went down to drain the Di-humidifier and manually eject the sump which is low considering all the rain we have had. .

and I'm not getting to take many bike rides. We have had more rain here than we have had in a long while - I guess we need it though, this part of the state has been under mild drought conditions.

The water is well over a foot higher than last year. The combination of precipitation and the Lake freezing over this winter has dramatically raised water levels. Many lakes in Minnesota are very high right now.

The forecast calls for 3+ inches of rain by next Saturday for large areas of the state. I'm glad I live in an area with very sandy soil at present.

6. When you say "constantly" do you mean without interruption?

I.e no rest? That would be a stuck float/switch. If it does rest how long between cycles?

to few times an hour but after yesterday back to every 5 min.

And even in between, now I hear dripping, like a toilet with a bad washer...

Two problems, I think, is that we are at the lower 1/3 of a major slope. So water comes down. Several year ago we put a drain tiles trench at the distance part of the yard, so when the snow melts on a major hill from our neighbor, it does not get close to the house.

We also heard that before the house was built this lot was a swamp. Great!

Another problem may be the clay soil. Several weeks ago, after a dry period. we got some work done where workers were digging holes to put posts. These holes were full of water.

Once it really dries, August or September, Will try to get someone to take a look. This is a finished basement and the pump is hidden by a cabinet and a desk so I dread getting into it. But would rather do this than wait for it to break.

You've got me buffaloed (had to look this one up) as it stands. Sorry I couldn't be of any help. One last point, I see your screen-name is "question everything". Everything? My, that sounds excessive! (See what I did there?)
