Great Clips customer who was possibly exposed to COVID-19 speaks out

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - A client who may have been exposed to COVID-19 at a Great Clips in Springfield is speaking out. One hair stylist worked for several days while sick with the virus. Now another stylist has also tested positive.

"Now I'm someone directly affected by COVID and I never thought that it would be so close to home," said Erik Chase.

Chase visited the Great Clips on S. Glenstone a week ago on Sunday, May 17. The following Saturday, Springfield-Greene County Health Department let him know he'd come in contact with someone who tested positive for the coronavirus.

He's one of the 84 clients who had their hair cut by a stylist who was working while showing symptoms for COVID-19.

"It's a big deal. It definitely gives me great concern," Chase said.

Chase said officials have asked him to stay home until May 31st, 14 days from when he got his hair cut. He must take his temperature twice a day and check in with the health department. He'll be tested for the virus this week.

"All this because someone wasn't responsible," Chase said.

... snip ...

Chase said from the time he went to the Great Clips to the day he was actually notified, he came in contact with 15 to 20 people. At this point, he's expecting the worst.

I wonder if he was wearing a mask when he was exposing those other 15-20 people?

I'd kind of like to get my hair cut, but it's a "want", not a "need". It's not essential by any stretch of the imagination.

I suppose the ONLY thing I miss is eating out. But, that is a luxury that can wait...for as long as it takes.

numbers were so low in the rest of the state of MO compared to KC and STL. How wrong they were.

I suspect that by now, the rural parts of MO are going to feel the pain that KCMO and STLMO have been feeling for the last 2 months or so.

At least here in STLMO, we started self isolation way before the state of MO did.

Personally, I think that since different parts of the state have been self isolating back and forth (the rural area of Missouri vs. STLMO and KCMO), the regions are going to self infect each other and we're going to go through this whole thing again. And of course being that there's a push to reopen for 'economic' reasons the Lake of the Ozarks and Branson, the powers that be (republican authorities in Jefferson City) are pushing for reopening. Smart, eh?

If they remove 10" or more, you can donate your hair to "Locks of Love", a group that makes wigs for cancer patients.

We'll all qualify because a haircut isn't as important as getting a blood transfusion.

I would see a young guy in there, about every two years. My hairdresser saw him so seldom that neither of us could remember his name. He had lovely honey blonde hair. He grew it long, and the hairdresser cut it carefully. He put it in a special container and donated it to Locks of Love. He did it for his mother, who had died of breast cancer.

That was the first time I had heard of the organization.
