Glacier Park Plows Reach Logan Pass

Plows on Glacier National Park’s Going-to-the-Sun Road reached Logan Pass
on Wednesday afternoon, however it’s unclear when the road will be open to
vehicle traffic.

Plows from the east side of the park are still battling west and on Thursday
were working near the East Tunnel. Once plow crews clear the tunnel they’ll
begin to plow the “Big Drift,” which is about a half-mile from Logan Pass.
Spokesperson Jennifer Lutman said it’s unclear how deep the drift is but
plow crews believe it is bigger than previous years.

in Montana we still have snow at 8,000ft and have only seen about four or five days where ambient temps were at or above 70F. A mild summer means low fire probability and a regular flow of runoff for the western watersheds. Glacier has been receiving snow up until the past week or ten days. Looks like it'll be a short summer up there.

I saw a snow drift that was plowed through in lower Hayden Valley, Yellowstone NP a few years back that was roughly 50ft high, quite a sight. I can imagine what that drift at Glacier looks like.

There will be 8 of us on the trip, including my youngest daughter who hasn't seen it yet.
