Despite earlier tensions, Mayor de Blasio bails Gov. Cuomo out with WFP

Gov. Cuomo spent the first few months of the year kicking around Mayor de Blasio over taxes and charter schools — but the re-election-minded governor owes the mayor big for helping him get the nomination of the liberal Working Families Party this weekend.

The bitterly divided third party made up of activists and labor unions was set to back a virtually unknown candidate to take on the centrist Cuomo, so the governor turned to his rookie mayor frenemy for help.

“It goes to prove in politics there are no permanent friends, no permanent enemies,” said veteran Democrat consultant Hank Sheinkopf.
