American Heart Association: Make CPR training in school mandatory

Joseph Spector

The American Heart Association today renewed its call to make CPR training mandatory for high schools, saying it would save lives.

capitol2The legislation (A9298/S7096) was approved by the Assembly Education Committee today. It’s sponsored by Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg, D-Nassau County, and Sen. Mark Grisanti, R-Buffalo.

The association had a rally near the Capitol, and victims spoke about the importance of the legislation, which has stalled in recent years.

However, is the AHA going to pay for all the equipment and whatever else going into the program they demand?

I do like the idea. I am just worried that they will spend the money and then say, "Oops now we need to cut teachers or close the library". I just know it could happen exactly that way.

It seems that AHA has been trying this for awhile with zero results. I don't know why the AHA couldn't at least pay initial costs to get the program started.

I would imagine they do. They are a huge bureaucracy where I am sure the CEO or President makes millions a year.

If they want this to happen as they demand, perhaps they can find the money to do that. Otherwise, I seriously doubt this will ever happen.
