ALBANYThe first high school Regents exams aligned to the Common Core standards came and went earlier this week without much hint of the drama and controversy of recent months.
"It was uncharacteristically quiet," said James Viola, director of government relations for the School Administrators Association of New York State.
Robert Lowry, deputy director of the New York State Council of School Superintendents said his members had a mixed response.
"Some people were saying it was hard but fair, and our kids were well prepared," he said, referring to the algebra exam. "Others said, 'Our teachers were appalled, and we've gotten upset calls from parents.' Some districts felt, for one reason or another, that they were better prepared."
