State completes $2 million restoration of historic Staatsburgh mansion s portico in Hyde Park
STAATSBURG (AP) >> State parks officials have completed a $2 million project at one of the Hudson Valleys great estates from the Gilded Age.
The Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and parks supporters gathered late Thursday morning at the Staatsburgh State Historic Site in the Hyde Park hamlet of Staatsburg to discuss the completed restoration of the portico on the east side of the Mills Mansion, also known as Staatsburgh.
Ogden Mills and his wife, Ruth Livingston Mills, built the mansion in the mid-1890s atop a grassy hill overlooking the Hudson River and the Catskill Mountains. The family donated the mansion and estate to New York state in 1938.
