Mayor de Blasio bids for Barclays Center to host the 2016 Democratic National Convention

Brooklyn's Barclays Center is already home to basketball and some of the world's biggest pop stars - and may be the next home of the 2016 Democratic National Convention.

Mayor de Blasio on Thursday sent out a bid for the Big Apple to host the liberal gathering, touting the "spectacular" Brooklyn arena as the perfect event space in a letter to DNC Chairwoman and Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

"The progressive spirit of New York City has never been stronger or more vibrant than it is today," he wrote. "We believe that this spirit can energize and captivate both the Democratic Party and the nation."

So picking a purple state or a state that is blue but could turn red like Virginia, Ohio, Florida, Pennsylvania might be a better option.
