Report: Rochester, Buffalo rank 3rd and 4th in U.S. for poverty

Joseph Spector

Rochester and Buffalo rank third and fourth, respectively, in the U.S. for poverty, a report said yesterday.

Buffalo Business First said statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau showed nearly 27 percent of the population in Buffalo live in poverty. In Rochester, it was slightly higher at 28 percent.

That ranks the two western New York cities behind only Detroit and Cleveland among major cities in their poverty rate, the publication said.
