Gov. Cuomo says he's open to signing a medical marijuana bill--if it makes sense

KEN LOVETT and. GLENN BLAIN

Saying that he supports the overall effort, Gov. Cuomo on Monday morning said he's open to signing a medical marijuana bill as long as it makes sense.

Cuomo noted there are advantages and disadvantages to legalizing medical pot.

"If you don't do it right and controls aren't in place, it could be a problem," he said. "How you do it is everything in this case."

Sen. Diane Savino (D-Staten Island) and Assemblyman Richard Gottfried (D-Manhattan) have been pushing for the Legislature to agree to a medical marijuana bill that can be passed this session. It's unclear whether the Senate Republican leadership would allow such a bill to the floor for a vote before the legislative session ends next week.

Seize the day governor. Yes, it is a political risk. That is how you make political gains. You take risks.

Across the country new medical marijuana initiatives are being dithered to death by government officials doing their best to prevent, stall, delay, destroy and deny.

But the national politician who makes this issue his own could get some traction.

She is just being an ass. (Hassan, D)

South of me in Mass the governor (Patrick, D) is also engaged in stalling tactics, and the Feds are off making it impossible for doctors to work with the clinics that the governor is stalling on by threatening to take away their prescription rights.

It is infuriating. People who actually need medical pot are off buying it illegally.
