Flanagan Expects Agreement On Teacher Evaluations

Nick Reisman

Negotiations have been sparse, but Senate Education Committee Chairman John Flanagan nevertheless expects lawmakers and Gov. Andrew Cuomo to reach a deal on changes to the state’s teacher evaluation law.

“There are a lot of separate discussions,” Flanagan said in an interview, adding there have been “a lot of meetings” with the statewide teachers union, NYSUT. “I wouldn’t say there have been a lot of serious negotiations.”

However, Flanagan expects an agreement to come, even if there are two weeks to go before lawmakers leave the Capitol for the summer.

“I’ve been here long enough to get a general feel for where things will go,” he said.
