MTA's security camera program to be completed in 2015, seven years behind schedule

The MTA’s long-delayed electronic security program finally will be completed next year - approximately seven years behind schedule and 14 years after the 9/11 terror attacks, officials said Tuesday.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority now has more than 4,000 cameras in the subway, the MTA said. Approximately half of the system’s daily riders pass through stations with the surveillance equipment, the MTA said.

Installing all planned electronic security measures in the under-river tunnels — the last part of the program — will be completed in March, the MTA said in a written update.
