Independent Democratic Conference Leader Jeff Klein backs a $10.10 minmum wage as well as local control for future increases, but he sees little chance of the measure passing by the end of this legislative session, due to conclude next week.
I think this is an issue that needs to get done, Klein, D-Bronx, said. I dont think it can get done in this legislative session, but Im hopeful that it will get done next year.
Any increase, he added, should take effect after the current minimum wage phase-in, which will hike the current wage to $9 by the end of 2015, Klein said.
After 2015, I would certainly support increasing the minimum wage $10.10, Klein said. I would also support looking toward giving localities the ability to raise the minimum wage, but setting some type of rate or increase so they cant go above a certain level and also making sure they cant below a certain level which is $9 in 2015.
