Dozens of Council members and NYCHA residents protest senior and youth center closings

Angelita Ruiz, a resident at the Soundview Houses in the Bronx for 22 years, doesn't know what she'll do if the residence's senior center closes.
"Without the center, we're going to be lost," said Ruiz, 61. "We're going to have nowhere to go. We play bingo, we have a lot of activities, and without them what are we going to do?"
The Soundview Houses' senior center is one of 33 in New York City Housing Authority complexes slated to close by the end of the month if funding does not get restored in Mayor de Blasio's budget. There are 24 community centers that help keep youth off the streets that are also in danger of shuttering.
