Senate Approves Two WEA Planks

Nick Reisman

The state Senate on Thursday approved two bills that are part of the 10-point women’s agenda addressing human trafficking and addressed protections geared toward pregnant women in the workplace.

The move appeared to be an effort to highlight a rift in the push for the full agenda, which includes a controversial bill aimed at strengthening the state’s abortion laws.

Some Democratic lawmakers in the Assembly, notably Assemblywoman Amy Paulin, have been pushing for the adoption of the human trafficking legislation which has been bottled up in the omnibus legislation.

Paulin, along with NOW New York City President Sonia Ossorio, even provided a quote for a Senate press released trumpeting the passage of the bill in the chamber this afternoon.
