Savino: Three-Way Talks Underway For Medical Marijuana Deal

Nick Reisman

A measure that would legalize a medicinal marijuana program is now the subject of negotiations between the Legislature and Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office, Sen. Diane Savino confirmed Thursday.

In a further development, the medical marijuana legislation has been transferred from the Senate Finance Committee to the Senate Rules Committee, greatly improving the measure’s chance of coming to the floor for a vote.

Cuomo in a radio interview earlier this morning said he had “serious questions” about the legislation known as the Compassionate Care Act, but added talks were being held.

Savino, a Staten Island Democrat and one of the key backers of the legislation, told reporters a bill could be ready by the beginning of next week, when lawmakers are due to conclude the legislative session.
