Teachout prepares petitions for possible Cuomo challenge

Jimmy Vielkind

ALBANY—Zephyr Teachout, the Fordham law professor considering a Democratic primary challenge to Governor Andrew Cuomo, said she still hasn't made a final decision about running but is preparing to circulate petitions just in case.

The New York Post reported on Friday that Teachout told the Village Independent Democrats she was moving forward with a Cuomo challenge, and would start handing out nominating documents today. During an interview with Capital this morning, Teachout at first said her campaign team had handed out petitions when they had been requested, then said they had not been circulated.

“If I do this run, I want to do a serious run and I want to make sure I have all my ducks in a row,” Teachout said in an interview. “We have not started circulating petitions. We've been building the infrastructure. We're just planning and building infrastructure.”
