Poll: Common Core rollout breeds confusion

By Rick Karlin

At the end of a school year riven by debate over education policy, upstate New Yorkers place their faith in teachers and their doubts with the state's rollout of the Common Core educational standards, according to a new Times Union/Siena College Education Poll.

Respondents by a nearly six-to-one margin believe rollout of the new standards, along with the tests that accompany them, has been rushed and led to widespread confusion.

"This is what the public believes," said Don Levy, director of the Siena College Research Institute. " ... They are kind of turning around and saying, 'Slow down — get your act together.'"
