ALBANYCiting the 1 p.m. start times for many Buffalo Bills home games, several western New York lawmakers are pushing legislation that would allow beer and alcohol to be sold an hour earlier on Sundays.
In New York, beer and alcohol cannot be sold before noon on Sundays. The lawmakers want to sales to be allowed starting at 11 a.m.
The current law is a big disincentive for a team whose home games start at 1, said Assemblyman Sean Ryan, a Buffalo Democrat, referring to the Bills. Theyre doing substantial renovations on [Ralph Wilson Stadium] so theres going to be more restaurant-type seating in there, and we would like to be able to have people come in from the parking lot and offer a full menu, including beer.
There are two active proposals in the Legislature on the alcohol issue. The firstby Senator Mark Grisanti, a Buffalo Republicanwould allow statewide sales of beer or liquor starting at 11 a.m. on Sundays. Grisanti said his bill, which is in the finance committee, may be taken up in the Senate this week before the legislative session ends. The companion bill, sponsored by Assemblyman Michael Benedetto, a Bronx Democrat, passed the that chamber last year, but hasnt moved this year.

(110,913 posts)I don't know of any drunk who goes to church on Sunday because the booze sales are shut down. If they're starting to go into DTs, they'll drink after shave, mouthwash or Lysol spray.
