Mayor de Blasio asks Rent Guidelines Board to consider "affordability crisis"

JENNIFER FERMINO

Mayor de Blasio, who loudly called for a rent freeze during his campaign for City Hall, struck a much softer tone on Monday when asked about the possibility of no hikes on rent-stabilized leases.

De Blasio stopped short of advocating for a freeze, instead saying he wanted the members of the Rent Guidelines Board to consider the city's housing "affordability crisis" when casting their final vote on June 23.

He said the Rent Guidelines Board - which meets tonight in Brooklyn and tomorrow in Queens to hear public testimony - still has "a lot of work to do."
