Hospital patient struck by flying glass after bullet shatters window

UPPER EAST SIDE (WABC) -- A Manhattan hospital patient was struck by a glass shard after an object, possibly a bullet fragment, shattered the window of her hospital room Friday morning.

The 30-year-old woman was injured on the eighth floor of the Hospital for Special Surgery on East 71st Street on the Upper East Side around 5:45 a.m.

The woman, who was in her bed at the time, was hit by a piece of flying glass.

Hospital staff heard the sound of shattered glass and rushed into the patient's room before immediately calling police.
