The top three candidates vying for Rep. Charles Rangels congressional seat would all oppose the use of air strikes and the deployment of several hundred special forces on the ground in Iraq.
Absolutely not, Rangel told WNYCs Brian Lehrer in a radio interview Friday morning when asked if he would support the use of force in Iraq. I might reconsidered if we enacted a draft...but I would only do that symbolically because it is not going to pass.... It is time for us to pull out and see who our friends are internationally.
State Sen. Adriano Espaillat -- who was trailing Rangel by 13 points in a poll released Thursday -- said he would support a multinational U.N. peacekeeping force in Iraq. Its horrendous whats happening in that part of the world, he said. The peacekeeping force could include U.S. troops but the U.N. should lead it with several countries that are our allies.

Theres at least one point of agreement among the three major candidates in the contested primary for the 13th Congressional District. Appearing individually on WNYC's "Brian Lehrer Show" this morning, Rep. Charlie Rangel, State Senator Adriano Espaillat and Rev. Michael Walrond each said they would oppose authorizing President Obama to use military force in Iraq.
Espaillat said he would vote against it, and that he would support Rangel's long-standing call to reintroduce the draft.
I would advocate for a draft, Espaillat said, calling it a great equalizer, and saying, definitely, I would be supportive of that.
