Insiders say Democratic takeover of NY Senate could rekindle tensions between Gov. Cuomo and Mayor de Blasio

A Democratic takeover of the state Senate could also rekindle tensions between Gov. Cuomo and de Blasio, Albany insiders from both parties suggest.
Cuomo has governed as a centrist, but a Democratic takeover of the Senate would mean the liberal wing of the party will control both houses of the Legislature.
"The last thing Gov. Cuomo wants is for Bill de Blasio to get stronger and to start throwing his weight around in Albany, backed up at every turn by a complicit State Senate majority which owes its very existence to him, said one insider.

"Tensions" between the mayor and a governor as abysmal as Cuomo is precisely what this voter is hoping for.

Last month, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said he would consider the governing coalition between state Senate Republicans and independent Democrats a "failure" if the chamber failed to pass campaign finance reform, women's equality legislation and the Dream Act, and would campaign to dissolve the partnership.
On Friday, as state lawmakers passed the final pieces of legislation before leaving Albany for the year, the governor rendered his verdict.
"I said if [those bills] weren't done I would see it as a failure and it would be a case I would bring to the people of the state after the session as we enter the political season," Mr. Cuomo said in a radio interview with The Capitol Pressroom's Susan Arbetter. "And that is exactly what I'm going to do."
He spared the Independent Democratic Conference of any serious criticism, directing most of his ire toward the Senate Republicans, who comprise most of the upper chamber's governing coalition. This is no surprise, as he will need Sen. Jeff Klein and his IDC to mend their rift with the regular Senate Democratic conference for the governor to fulfill his promise to the Working Families Party to reunify Senate Democrats.
