Eric Schneiderman's campaign calls GOP rival's crimefighting criticism 'desperate'

A new memo from the spokesman for Attorney General Eric Schneiderman's campaign accuses GOP opponent John Cahill of distorting Schneiderman's record.

The memo comes as Cahill, former Gov. George Pataki's then chief of staff, has increased his attacks on Schneiderman's approach to criminal justice.

"In a desperate attempt to resuscitate his anemic campaign, John Cahill is resorting to outright lies about Attorney General Schneiderman's record," spokesman Pater Ajemian wrote.

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has received endorsements from three Nassau County Democrats in the Assembly for his reelection bid this November.

Assemblyman Charles Lavine, Glen Cove; Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel, Great Neck; and Assemblywoman Michaelle Solanges, Elmont, announced their support for Schneiderman and commended his efforts to curtail the growing heroin and opioid epidemic and reduce gun violence.

Lavine and Solanges issued statements that praised the attorney general's Internet System for Tracking Over-Prescribing law, which creates a database of all controlled substance prescriptions across the state.
