News Corp. sells Community Newspaper Group to Les and Jennifer Goodstein

Joe Pompeo

News Corp. is unloading its Community Newspaper Group to a former company executive and his wife, Capital has learned.

CNG, which consists of 11 community weeklies in New York City including The Brooklyn Paper and The Bronx Times, has been sold to Les Goodstein, who previously ran CNG from 2006 to 2013, and his wife, Jennifer Goodstein, who runs a separate chain of community newspapers in Manhattan, a source with knowledge of the deal confirmed. CNG also publishes several specialty magazines.

Capital first reported June 12 that the sale was imminent and that Goodstein was the likely buyer.

News Corp. confirmed the deal in a news release issued this morning after this item was first published. Terms of the sale were not disclosed, but the company said it will officially close next week.
