High-school graduation rate up slightly in NY

Three out of four New York high-school students graduated on-time last school year, according to data released Monday. by the state Education Department.

In all, 74.9 percent of students graduated in four years, a slight increase from 74 percent in each of the previous two years. The state data tracks four-year graduation rates for students who entered ninth grade in 2009.

Among the state’s largest cities, the New York City, Buffalo and Yonkers school districts all saw increases, with Buffalo jumping to 53.4 percent from 46.8 percent the previous year. Yonkers went from 66 percent to 66.4 percent, while New York City increased from 60.4 percent to 61.3 percent.
