Rep. Dan Maffei's infrastructure plan: Bridge and road improvements, high-speed rail, expand broadband access

SYRACUSE | Investing in infrastructure can help improve bridges, highways and sewer and water systems. But Rep. Dan Maffei believes it also helps in one other area.

Job creation.

Maffei, D-Syracuse, held a press conference Monday at the Erie Canal Museum in Syracuse to unveil his comprehensive infrastructure plan. The proposals outlined by Maffei include the creation of a national infrastructure bank to help fund projects, improvements at Syracuse Hancock International Airport and federal investment to expand high-speed rail.

Other issues were tackled in Maffei's infrastructure plan, including the replacement of the Interstate 81 viaduct in Syracuse, creating an "intermodal Erie Canal" to help support the Port of Oswego and expanding broadband access.
