ALBANYWilmorite, the Rochester-based real estate company, will unveil redesigned plans today for a $425 million destination casino-resort in the town of Tyre in the states Finger Lakes region.
The casino's developer, Tom Wilmot, will also get new partners and the facility will get a new namechanging from the Wilmot Casino and Resort to Lago Resort and Casino. Lago is the Italian word for lake.
The new plans also change the projects design from its earlier version, and increase the projected cost by about $75 million from earlier estimates of about $350 million. The developer said those changes, which would lower the hotels height and its parking garage and move the facility further from surrounding agricultural and personal property, were made in response to concerns from residents and officials in the surrounding community.

The neighbors of the proposed site for Wilmorite's Finger Lakes casino said design changes announced today do not change their position about living next door to it.
"Any casino resort would not lend itself to our rural and agricultural character in Tyre, NY," said James Dawley, a spokesman for the opposition group Casino Free Tyre. "We've fought tirelessly to defend this, therefore our position has not changed in opposing a casino anywhere in or around the Town of Tyre."

With a virtual guarantee that no casino will be built in Albany County, city and county officials are busy negotiating last-minute pacts with would-be casino builders to share the wealth and protect their interests should a gambling resort rise just beyond their borders.
But Common Council President Carolyn McLaughlin said it seems highly unlikely any deal struck this week would result in city lawmakers voicing support for a specific casino project before Monday's deadline for developers to submit their applications to the state.
Barring a major development, McLaughlin said she doesn't expect to call a special council meeting before then.
City approval isn't needed for any project not within its borders.

TUXEDO, N.Y. -- Dena Steele was one of many Tuxedo residents who came out to a casino open house Tuesday.
"My concerns are to learn what the impact is of a casino is and hotel development in a small residential area," said Dena Steele, a Tuxedo resident.
On hand to answer questions was Dennis Hays, the former city manager of Kansas City, Kansas. Hays has experience working with a casino in his city, which he said is similar to the project planned for Tuxedo.

(6,829 posts)mainly because it would destroy the NYRF which uses the land currently for parking and for the faire grounds.
The hotel would be built on what is now the free parking area of the grounds. The Faire itself would be hacked up, turned in to a year round "world's fair". This would mean all the current vendors would lose all the money they have sunk in to the buildings, the patrons would lose a great faire that we all love. and the cast would not be able to do what they love to do, put on a show for the patrons.
I really really hope NYS says no to the casino in Tuxedo on 17A.
