Great White Shark Spotted Off Rockaway Beach

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - A giant fin cutting through the waves is not something you want to see at the beach this summer.

But as CBS 2?s Matt Kozar reported, a great white shark made an appearance just a mile off shore in Queens over the weekend.

“As long as it doesn’t go anywhere near me, I’m good,” said swimmer Chris Francisco.

“I think it’s pretty cool,” another beachgoer said.

Still big, but not a Great White. Still, I've cautioned my family that I'm not a strong swimmer in the ocean and if they insist on going out and get into trouble, I'll say a prayer for them, but I can't come out and get them.

I think the 4 great white sightings between NJ and NC in the past few weeks have given them the idea that shelling and skim boarding are good beach past times.
