City Controller Scott Stringer approves $40 million settlement with Central Park Five

CORINNE LESTCH

City Controller Scott Stringer approved the proposed $40 million settlement for the Central Park Five plaintiffs on Thursday.

"In my judgment, this settlement is a prudent and equitable solution for all parties to the lawsuit and closes a very difficult chapter in our city's history," Stringer said in a statement. "I would like to commend New York City's Law Department for their extensive efforts in reaching this settlement."

The five black and Latino men, who were wrongfully convicted 24 years ago in the Central Park jogger case, reached the settlement with the city last week. Mayor de Blasio had promised during his campaign to reach an agreement with the men.
