...reddest states in the country? I am surprised.

We've been there a couple times and thought it was a place we could retire to except for the real estate prices.

Of course, I don't know why we're even worrying about this -- it's well known that Obama plans to cancel the 2016 election and stay in power until he dies.

Well known in some circles, anyway.

Dems held the General Assembly for 100 years before 2010. Sadly that was a redistricting year and the Republicans took full advantage and gerrymandered the shit out of us, making it nearly impossible for the Dems to win back the GA in the near term. In addition, ALEC and another local group headed by Art Pope, a very rich and very crazy rightwing ideologue, are investing huge amounts of money to force there extreme beliefs on the rest of us. It has been very painful and difficult since they are gutting our excellent public education system, making our healthcare system even worse and denying the unemployed help that they desperately need. But these are a small group of rightwing business men and politicians who are holding the rest of us hostage and are not representative of the general population. By demographics, we are def a purple state, moving toward blue. Asheville is very liberal, and the major cities are solidly blue now. Obama took a surprise win in NC during his first presidential run and has appeared to have a soft spot for us ever since.

Asheville has been a liberal mecca since the 70's when I used to hang there. Charlotte was pretty blue, until NY and NJ started deporting Republicans to the Charlotte suburbs 20 years ago. I know quite a few libs who have moved to the city of Raleigh. Boone has always been a pretty cool town.

I'm moving to Wilmington next month which is more liberal than my present home city of Albany NY.

It is nearly impossible for a Rep to win anything here other than a few of the predominately white and affluent suburban areas.

Wilmington is really nice. Access to the beach, historic architecture and the university make it a really enjoyable city. Good luck there. And yay! one more liberal vote for when we get rid of Governor McCrory next time he runs

Sasha finishes high school - at least two yrs after the Pres. leaves office.

The Asheville area is lovely, and I could see the Obamas wanting to have a part-time home there.

Then, of course, there's always a little nostalgia for Hawaii.

That would be very nice.
