Social Security opens office to investigate disability fraud in NC
RALEIGH The Social Security Administration has opened a North Carolina office which is dedicated to identifying disability fraud across the state.
The agency's office of the inspector general joined the State Bureau of Investigation on Thursday in dedicating the Cooperative Disability Investigations Unit in Raleigh.
A statement from the agency says the unit helps disability examiners make informed decisions, ensure payment accuracy and generate significant taxpayer savings for both federal and state programs.
CDI units combine efforts from federal, state and local agencies to analyze and investigate suspicious or questionable disability claims and resolve questions of potential fraud before benefits are ever paid.
