Deceased hand surgeon Michael Brown's expensive hobby--Yes I know
but this time it isn't cocaine.
Michael Brown's collectible guitars bring in more than $100,000 at auction
They came for collectibles like a Gibson double-neck, acoustic-electric guitar with a personal note from the maker and an Epiphone "Lucille" model signed by blues musician B.B. King.
The June 1 auction of the late Michael Brown's guitar collection drew more than 100 bidders to Webster's Auction Palace in north Houston, where they spent more than $100,000. Rules of the federal bankruptcy case prohibit the auction house from revealing top bid amounts on individual items, said auctioneer Billy Webster.
Brown, a former Houston hand surgeon whose personal life made headlines for a number of years before his death, filed for bankruptcy in January 2013. The 55-year-old died Nov. 8 in a Miami hospital following a cardiac arrest in October.
On the day after he suffered the heart attack, he had been scheduled to report to federal prison for a 30-day sentence after he pleaded guilty to interfering with a flight attendant.
