Democratic State Comptroller candidate Mike Collier aims to change equation

SAN ANGELO, Texas — Although running as the Democratic candidate for state comptroller, Mike Collier wants to take politics out of the race.

“Analysts aren’t political by nature,” Collier said.

Making San Angelo one of his many statewide stops, Collier addressed the Tom Green County Democratic Party at its Monday night meeting. At Collier’s first visit to San Angelo, the event drew about 50 people.

Collier, a certified public accountant who has been in the oil business for some time, feels it is time Texas elected a chief financial officer to the comptroller post. Collier touted he has the qualifications and the background to do the job, contrasting himself with opponent state Sen. Glenn Hegar, who has a background in agriculture and politics.

“The first order of business is we need to reform how we estimate revenues,” Collier said.
