Midland PD: Man viciously kills pit bull with knife

Midland, Texas -- A Midland man slit his dog’s throat Sunday before stabbing it multiple times and throwing it over a fence at a Midland apartment complex, according to court documents.

Derik Alan Huskey, 29, is being held on a $100,000 bond for a state jail felony charge of cruelty to an animal by killing or causing serious bodily injury.

A Midland police officer responded to the incident at about 12:50 p.m. Tuesday in the 2200 block of Cotton Flat Road.

The complainant told the officer that an employee notified her that Huskey had repeatedly stabbed his dog in front of a large crowd at about 9 p.m. Sunday before burying the dog somewhere on the property.

The officer learned that Huskey slit the pit bull terrier’s throat six to seven times, screaming “If you call the police I’ll stab you, too; this is my dog.”
