Texas Ethics Commission fines state Rep. Linda Harper-Brown (R-Irving) $5,000
The Texas Ethics Commission, nearly four years after a complaint was filed, has fined state Rep. Linda Harper-Brown $5,000 for not properly disclosing loan repayments on her campaign finance reports.
In 2010, The Dallas Morning News reported that at least $450,000 in loans to Harper-Browns campaign showed no record of repayment, which is required to be detailed on disclosure reports. You can read the Texas Ethics Commissions order and agreed resolution here.
A spokesman for the group that filed the 2010 complaint against Harper-Brown, The Texas Values in Action Coalition, said it was important to shine the light on the Irving lawmakers reporting errors.
I was happy to see that they finally got that taken care of, Russell Langley said. The representative was not following her reporting obligations per the election code.

Harper-Brown used to represent the district that I lived in while I resided in Irving. The fine is equal to nearly 70% of her pay of $7,200 per year as a legislator. Harper-Brown lost in the March primary so this will be nice going-away present for her. Ouch!
