Abilene Military Veteran Files Law Suit Against Congressman Randy Neugebauer
Why is it that certain news stories are overlooked and less important ones are given more attention?
A friend sent me this controversial gem of a story from Abilene involving Congressman Randy Neugebauer and I never noticed it on any Lubbock media outlet. Its more than a week old and yet, the story remains under the wire; obscured by accident, or perhaps, by choice.
Following the story from its beginning in April 2014, it seems that 69 year old Larry Gordon, an Abilene veteran, sought a meeting with Congressman Neugebauer to discuss reasons and solutions for the large number of veteran suicides. Mr. Gordon claimed hes attempted to schedule a meeting with Mr. Neugebauer for TWO years without success. Out of frustration, he went directly to the Congressmans office seeking a final opportunity to be heard, and was arrested. To make things worse, Mr. Gordon was subsequently detained in a psychiatric facility for six days.
Neugebauers response? A single statement to the Abilene press: For the past few weeks, my staff has been working with a constituent whose behavior has given us reason to be concerned for his well-being. We referred the matter to the Capitol Police and the Abilene Police Department so they could provide the assistance required to ensure his health and safety. Im grateful for their service today and every day.
