Brice Johnson
FORT WORTH A North Texas man has pleaded guilty to a kidnapping charge, admitting that he abducted and severely beat a gay man he met through an online service.
Brice Johnson could be sentenced to up to life in prison and fined up to $250,000 for the abduction of a man court documents identify only as "A.K." Prosecutors have agreed to drop a hate crime count the 19-year-old Springtown man faced in his indictment.
Johnson will remain in custody pending his Nov. 17 sentencing.
According to an affidavit, Armstrong used social media to invite the man to his home on Sept. 2, 2013. It alleged Johnson beat him because of his sexual orientation and threw him in his car trunk. A.K. was hospitalized for 10 days with multiple skull and facial fractures.

(111,944 posts)I posted the original thread back in February, but unfortunately the thread seemed to drop like a stone. I imagine that the victim still has some substantial bills due to this brutal beating.

(4,879 posts)I'm sorry TT. I found this on a GD thread from misterhighwasted.
As I stated there, I will donate what I can afford from my next paycheck.

(111,944 posts)I'm sure that he has some substantial medical bills. I cross-posted in Texas and he LGBT groups; however, I know that some people don't have their filters set to look at all forums. Unfortunately, when threads are posted in GD they can sometimes drop like stones.

(4,879 posts)that I am steering clear of.
I live here, but for some reason I am not allowed to criticize the state of the State.
This situation is one of the very things that sets me off.
So many people in this state live in their gated community bubbles that they don't see the reality of the majority of others.
I am one of the "invisible little people".
I thank misterhighwasted for bringing this to my attention.

I do not have a bank account and do all my financial transactions by money order.
PM me if necessary.

(4,879 posts)Unfortunately the link they sent me went to was "Go Fund Me Spain". I have no intention to fund somebodies trip to Spain, unless it is my own.
I am hoping this will be resolved through further communication with gofundme. I am hoping this is just a glitch.

(9,148 posts)Ellen Degeneres. I recall how visible she became with the murder of Matthew Sheppard. This could have easily been a similar ending.
Perhaps my request will somehow make its way to her inbox, & be read by her & some kindness will make its way to this young man.
Its a longshot I know, but I believe there is another God in Texas somewhere.
We do what we are compelled to do by our hearts.
Thank You again for bringing this story back.

(111,944 posts)I know that you took a bit of a lashing on one of the threads this week. I realize that you were pointing out some of the differences between Texas and Minnesota and I didn't think that your comments are unreasonable. I've been in Texas my whole life, but I recognize a lot of the crap that goes on here.
On Wednesday I had to go to Bay City (28 miles from Wharton) for a mental health evaluation for SSDI. My brother drove to the exam, but as he was dropping me off the hospital where he works called him because the person that handled that shift was getting sick. I told my brother to go ahead and leave me since I didn't know how long it would take and because he needs to get as many hours as possible since he is collecting some unemployment due to the cut in hours he is experiencing. I had to spend about 5 hours in town, ride the bus to Houston and then transfer to get back to Wharton so instead of getting home about 10:30 a.m. I didn't make it back until 8:00 p.m.
In that one day I saw so many ill-mannered people I was appalled. I started out by going to the convenience store to get the details for when the bus was leaving and a bum was begging me at the counter for money to buy him beer at 10:30. When I went to the library to waste some time on the internet the librarian was somewhat rude to me because I got a phone call--I went to an area so I wouldn't disturb the other patrons, but left the building after she sniped at me. Then the same librarian sniped at another kid and used the word "no" way more frequently than would be expected from an adult. Finally, as I was getting to leave another boy and girl were being mean to their very young sister (probably about 5 years old). When I went back to catch the bus at 3:00 the same bum that begged for money earlier was still there and asked for more money so I told him that I'm unemployed and not in a position to hand out money for someone to buy alcohol. If he was begging for food then I would have given him a couple of dollars, but I don't have much tolerance for alcoholics. One of the other customers that was waiting to catch the bus called the police on the bum and the police showed up, but I don't know if they caught up to him.
On the bus, there was a sexist pig a few rows behind me that told his girlfriend that she had better not gotten too fat while she was pregnant because he wanted to ogle over her in her two-piece bikini. Overall he was so disgusting in public that I told the lady in the next seat that he was a sexist pig and she laughed along with me.
There are a lot of great things about Texas and it is my home, but occasionally I just want to get up and swat some of the people for their boorish behavior. I hope that you do visit in the Texas group since I enjoy interacting with you, but I also understand why you might want to take a break also.
malokvale77
(4,879 posts)I visit here every day, and I will continue to.
It just seems like it is the same 1/2 a dozen people who actually care.
Then some ass wants to jump my case because I said something nice about someplace else.
WALLEYE, for gods sake!
Take care TT.
