D.A.: Criminal charges against Stanley Marsh 3 dropped for now
A judge has dismissed criminal complaints against Stanley Marsh 3 and the case is now officially closed, but the possibility remains that it could be refiled if investigators develop further evidence, Lubbock County Criminal District Attorney Matt Powell said Tuesday.
Marsh 3, 76, died last week after a lengthy illness. District Judge John Board of 181st District Court on Tuesday signed court papers dismissing charges against Marsh 3 following his death.
In April 2013, Powell filed several criminal charges against the Amarillo millionaire that included indecency with a child, sexual assault of a child and sexual performance by a child, stemming from allegations that Marsh 3 paid then-teenage boys to perform sex acts for cash at his downtown Chase Tower offices. Marsh 3 denied the charges.
Powell was appointed to prosecute the case after 47th District Attorney Randall Sims disclosed that he could be a possible witness in the case after the mother of an alleged victim telephoned him during the investigation.
