DALLAS Wendy Davis and Leticia Van de Putte shared the spotlight at the Texas Democratic Party convention on Friday night, promising to change the direction of the state, ripping their Republican opponents and imploring Democrats to break the GOPs two-decade grip on state government.
Davis attacked her Republican opponent, matching his attacks at the GOP convention in Fort Worth earlier this month, and talked fighting insiders in Austin.
Im running because theres a moderate majority thats being ignored commonsense, practical, hardworking Texans whose voices are being drowned out by insiders in Greg Abbotts party, and it needs to stop, she said.
Davis spoke about her background, her kids and her grandmother, all as a way of establishing her Texas roots and values.

(112,107 posts)I hope that you read through the entire article. It sound like both Wendy and Leticia were fired up tonight.
The president is coming to Austin and Dallas for fundraising purpose early next month so hopefully he can give some support to both ladies.

(297,137 posts)From your link.. what did Wendy mean by this..?
Unlike Greg Abbott, Im not afraid to share the stage with my partys nominee for lieutenant governor, my colleague, mi hermana, Leticia Van de Putte, she said. When the audience hooted, she cautioned them: Now you guys dont clap too much or Greg Abbott will sue you.
The insider slam on Abbott was woven into Davis nine pages of prepared remarks. You see, Mr. Abbott cut his teeth politically as part of the good old boys network thats had their hands on the reins for decades, she said. Hes been in their service and their debt since he ran for office, and as a judge and a lawyer hes spent his career defending insiders, protecting insiders, stacking the deck for insiders and making hardworking Texans pay the price.

(112,107 posts)What Wendy Davis meant by that statement is that she isn't afraid to share the stage with her "sister" Leticia Van de Putte. Meanwhile, Greg Abbott's running mate for lieutenant governor on the Republican ballot is Dan Patrick, the right-wing fundamentalist crazy who tried to commit suicide back in the 80s.
Here is an excerpt from Paul Burkas blog at Texas Monthly:
One thing I believe with absolute certainty: Dan Patrick as lieutenant governor will hasten the day Texas turns purple. His personal history is one of recklessness and carelessness. There are going to be train wrecks along the way. I have serious doubts about whether the tea party can govern or whether Patrick can get along with his peers without having a meltdown along the way.

(297,137 posts)Thank you for additional info on Dan Patrick.. I can see why Greg Abbot might not want to be seen with him or Nugent.

(10,597 posts)I wear mine all the time, even if the color clashes. When people comment on them, I tell them why I wear them (in support of Wendy Davis' run for Governor in Texas.) They look at me like I'm nuts, because I don't live anywhere near Texas. But they learn something. Go Wendy!

(145,129 posts)I am home and had a nap. It was tiring (five plus hours on the Rules committee) but I had a great time. I was having dinner Saturday night with Juanita Jean and her husband when Chairman Hinojosa and his wife joined us. Chairman Hinojosa is a great man and was very interesting.
I will post later more about the convention but I had a great time.
