Fraternity suspends Texas A&M chapter after student's death

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) - The Sigma Nu fraternity has suspended all activities of its Kappa Sigma chapter at Texas A&M University following the death by drug overdose of a member last weekend.

A fraternity statement Thursday announced the suspension while an investigation into the death of 19-year-old Anton Gridnev of Frisco takes place.

College Station police determined Gridnev died of a drug overdose last Saturday at the fraternity house. Four students have been arrested on drug-related charges.

The executive director of the Virginia-based fraternity, Brad Beacham, says Sigma Nu officials are cooperating in the investigation. The fraternity also suspended the membership of the four suspects.

Police: Body of fraternity member moved before officials arrived

College Station police say the body of Anton Gridnev was moved by people inside the Sigma Nu fraternity house before police arrived Saturday.

According to College Station police, officers responded to the Sigma Nu house at 4:40 a.m. Saturday and found Gridnev unconscious and not breathing. He was given CPR and taken to the College Station Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the cause of death. Officials suspect an overdose of an unknown substance.

As of Tuesday evening, the Texas A&M Sigma Nu chapter's webpage and Facebook page were disabled, though the school's Interfraternity Council webpage still lists the fraternity.

The Kappa Sigma Chapter of Sigma Nu was founded at Texas A&M in 1985.
