Teach to Testing - Look down the road.

Guess you heard about the Chicago Teachers talk about one of the main reasons for their strike; using testing to assess students and teachers. The teachers had their say because they have a union. People see that this testing measure by big business testing products, as the objective instead of the Chicago teachers object, which is and should be, teaching children critical thinking skills as well as knowledge.

Just think, if trained teachers are removed what will take their place? Could it be teaching machines? Could the money for teachers be given to big business companies for the move in of computers with an established program on a hard drive? Could a curriculum of dumbing down be totally installed in our children so that they can be lead into a feudalistic dependent society? How will these type of students pay society back?

Machine programmers could sort out children on to a path for their adult life. Used to, students made the decision about where they transitioned to as adults. And they had the ability to reason. Many high school students supported the efforts of their teachers in Chicago because they know how impersonal a computer is. And they know how healthy it is to have personal interaction with teachers and peers.

They are our children. They look to use for safety, compassion, and experience while they learn: which equals confidence, knowledge and right-thinking as they are promoted through the graded system and out into the world.

Texas teachers have no union, they have parents. Please be aware of loss of high school credits if your child fails a STAAR End of Course exam or your school does not make AYP-average yearly progress. It could mean credit recapture by an installed computer program. Watch carefully please! Funding for teachers, aides and programs such as phonetics has been pulled by pro business extreme legislators in Texas.
