New curfews set for Monday night in Seattle, Renton after massive weekend unrest
Several Puget Sound cities, including Seattle, Renton and Mercer Island, announced Monday that they will imposed a curfew Monday night following three consecutive days of protests and in some cities, looting that left a widespread trail of destruction and theft.
Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan said Monday that the city will impose another curfew tonight as a result of weekend protests and planned protests expected again for this evening. Speaking during an afternoon press conference, the mayor said the curfew will begin at 6 p.m. and last through 5 a.m. Tuesday.
Renton said it too would impose a curfew but they have not yet said what time it will start and end.
Mercer Island officials said their curfew will begin at 7 p.m. Monday night and extend through 5 a.m. Tuesday.
