Artist Andy Warhol’s idea to decorate the Tacoma Dome with a brilliant bloom fizzled in 1982. Thirty-two years later, the design could begin to blossom.

City officials applied a test patch of adhesive film to the top of the Dome Tuesday. In a few months they will check to see how it is faring against the summer sun and fall moisture.

The test also examines whether the film will harm the Dome’s exterior fabric layer.

A rough estimate puts the cost of a full-Dome wrap at a little more than $2 million. City Councilman David Boe said if the test passes muster, a private group would have to raise money to install the flower.

How about just refreshing the beautiful geometric design the Dome has sported since opening? Aristus Jun 2014 #2

Because using a gigantic, ugly, petroleum-based plastic decal designed by a dead artist makes it look like crap.

If not that, maybe solar panels?

The paint job is looking faded and forlorn these days. I'm pretty sure the city doesn't have the money for a restoration. But if they are able to raise the funds, let's keep the current design.
