I'm thinking the Wisconsin State Journal is now the best newspaper in Wisconsin. Any other ideas?
At least in the online version, it seems the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has taken political stories off the main pages and it takes some real effort to find what's left of that content. That goes for all the Gannett owned Wisconsin newspapers.
Have all the Gannett papers been substantially dumbed down and filled with meaningless puff pieces since the Gannett/USA Today takeover? It's disturbing to see the Gannett owned papers, formerly independent newspapers with unique styles and perspectives, being forced into such a vapid mold. Maybe I'm being too critical, but this isn't good.
The Gannett owned newspapers:
The Post-Crescent, Appleton
The Reporter, Fond du Lac
Green Bay Press-Gazette
Herald Times Reporter, Manitowoc
Marshfield News Herald
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
Oshkosh Northwestern
The Sheboygan Press
Stevens Point Journal
Wausau Daily Herald
The Daily Tribune, Wisconsin Rapids

(34,661 posts)Wisconsin is not the only State that has this happen. And what is really scary is,the Gannett Family are hard core Right Wingers and Religious Nut Jobs. With the consolidation of the Print Media into the hands of abut a half dozen family's or their Business Shell Companies, one sees the danger in News coverage and News accuracy. Point of interest, the number one City for Advertise Print is Milwaukee, and Gannett is one of the Largest Job Printers in the World. And that my friends is were the money is.

(10,164 posts)for 30 years. When they endorsed Bush in 2004 I left them. The paper was always right wing, but not obnoxiously so. When they said Bush deserved a "second chance," the proverbial "do-over" I, and many others, were done with them.
What about The Capitol Times?

I would LOVE a real paper, a good one, with political cartoons and lots of news, along with our local news. Sounds like an opportunity for someone.

(111,989 posts)I didn't know that Gannett ran so many of those papers. The papers that I review for Wisconsin are as follows:
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
Wisconsin State Journal
Green Bay Press-Gazette
The Post-Crescent
The Journal Times
La Crosse Tribune
Leader-Telegram
Kenosha News
The Janesville Gazette
Wausau Daily Herald
I wasn't aware of the Capitol Times so I'll add it to my list even though it is a weekly. I would be interested to receive any other suggestions.
