Wisconsin reports largest number of new COVID-19 in a single day

MADISON, Wis. (WXOW) - On Wednesday, Wisconsin health officials recorded the highest number of new COVID-19 cases since the outbreak began.

The Department of Health Services (DHS) update shows there were 528 new cases in Wisconsin which brings the total number to 13,413. That's more than double the number of cases, 198, from the day before and more than triple from Monday.

The reason for the increase is likely due to labs processing more tests.

The Department of Health Services reported a record 6,591 new test results, of which 528--or 8.0 percent--came back positive. As a percentage of total tests, this is an increase from Tuesday.

Statewide, 154,300 tests have come back negative.

The total number of hospitalizations was 2,161, an increase of 51 from Tuesday.

The number of deaths related to the coronavirus increased by 14 to 481.

Health officials said 16% of people who have tested positive for coronavirus in Wisconsin have been hospitalized.

There are 399 people currently hospitalized with COVID-19, 127 of them in intensive care.

The state has a supply of 1,263 ventilators, 284 of which are in use for patients.

On Tuesday, health officials released an updated number of recovered cases. That figure stands at 7,728, an increase of 716 from Wednesday. The statistic seems to rely heavily on the assumption most people recover within a month, rather than actual verification through testing.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services updates the statistics each day on its website around 2 p.m.

Literally do not understand the lunacy of the anti-science people. A nurse I work with thinks this is all a hoax, is only wearing the PPE because of policy and doesn't wear a mask in the communication room talking with the other staff. Vaccines are poison to her. She claims more people die by suicide so we shouldn't fear this disease.

She said its been the most draining experience of her career. She had a 19 year old boy on a vent for 2 weeks, but he did recover.

She had to wear the same mask for 3 days, even when screening patients for Covid.

When you're on the front lines like she is, its absolutely terrifying. Doctors and nurses aren't usually afraid of getting sick from their patients.

And now we have the Tavern League influencing public health policy.

We need to flip the Supreme Court.

Then the virus needs to find Vos and the Fitzgeralds. They can pass it to their cronies, especially Assemblyman Rob Swearingen, who was formerly head of his county's Tavern League.
